More Notes on "the Double X"

Take a look at these two videos also--they will help you visualize what is going on here!
Remember, all we are doing is naming angle pairs.

GRADE: 8/27 Transformations Quiz

Today we are taking a quiz! Go to CTLS and sign in. You should see the quiz. It is just ten questions. Have fun!

This link should take you there. If not, you'll need to go through the main website the way you usually do.

GRADE 8/26: Dilations Packet

Yesterday you started the Dilations Activity. Today you will finish it. Between yesterday and today you will get a classwork grade out of it all! Do your best: I don't expect classwork to be perfect. But it does need to be finished!

8/23 GRADE: Half Day Transformations

Hey y'all! Class is only 35 minutes today, so we're not learning anything new. Instead, we're going to put a little grade in the book. Here it is!

Friday Was Computer Day!

Nothing going on for today here. We had to finish up the MI and do some work in the classroom.

Next week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday--we're having a grade!

See you then!

Today We Take the Math Inventory (MI)

Hey y'all!

Today we will be taking the math inventory (MI). If you've been at Campbell for a minute, you've definitely done this before.

Remember that it's an adaptive test. Meaning, it will get more difficult as you get questions right, and easier if you miss a question. So don't stress if you don't know something--the test will adjust. On the other hand, if it feels really hard all the time? That means you're getting a lot of questions correct!

Good luck. Shouldn't take more than 45 minutes to an hour.

8/18 GRADE: Translations, Reflections, Rotations

Today we are going to do an activity with all three of the transformations we have learned so far. It will be for a grade, so good luck!

Use the notes I have posted over the past couple of days, and please email me with any questions at john.wamsted1@cobbk12.org

Rotation Activity

Follow the notes from yesterday to get a feel for this! Give it a try!

Notes on Rotations

Rotations can be tricky. First I'll show you the RULE and then I'll show you a picture that might make more sense to an artist.

First, the RULE. Remember that counter-clockwise means "to the left" and every 90 degrees is one-quarter of a turn. Or, in fact, just one quadrant at a time!

Also notice that the numbers in the coordinates stay the same every time, but they get moved around and also we use the opposite sometimes. It can be a little confusing, but once you get the hang of it you'll find it makes a weird kind of sense!

Next, a picture. Notice how the shape rotates around the origin, like it's the center of a wheel. Letter A points to the right, and all the other letters point in different directions!

8/13 GRADE: Reflection Activity

Check out the notes from yesterday if you need help!! And email me if you have any questions at all: john.wamsted1@cobbk12.org

Notes on Reflections

Here are some brief notes on reflections.

The easiest way to reflect a coordinate is to take it and apply the rules.

When we reflect across the x-axis, we use the opposite of the y-value.

When we reflect across the y-axis, we use the opposite of the x-value.

Check out these drawings below!

Notes on Translations

A translation is a shift or a slide of an object around the coordinate plane. The size & the shape of the object is not changed in anyway--only the location is changed!

We translate a shape by taking each of its coordinates and adjusting them by the rule.

So, for instance, Q(1, -1) becomes Q'(-2, 3) by following the rule (x-3, y+4).

Once each coordinate is translated, we can draw our new shape!

Super Basic Transformations Notes

 There are four basic transformations.

1) Translation: shift, slide, push, move.

2) Reflection: mirror, flip.

3) Rotation: spin, turn.

4) Dilation: grow/shrink.

Here's a super-basic picture of all four.
